French cosmetics and skincare company NARS Cosmetics has made an announcement about their upcoming NFT collection in honor of National Orgasm Day on July 31st.
Taking inspiration from the hues and textures of their renowned “Orgasm” makeup shade, the forthcoming NFT collection from NARS Cosmetics will be up for auction as exclusive Ethereum digital artworks on the SuperRare platform. Commencing from July 25, SuperRare will be accepting initial bids on the captivating pieces entitled “Orgasm, Activated.”
In a remarkable move, NARS Cosmetics collaborated with five talented female-identifying artists – Dr. Alex Box, Serwah Attafuah, Nina “Ninocence” Hawkins, Clara Bacou, and Damara Ingles – commissioning them to craft these exquisite digital art pieces. What sets this initiative apart is that all auction proceeds and royalties from the NFT collection will be channeled directly to support these creators.
“The emergence of Web3 and digital collectibles has ushered in a new era of artistic creation and self-expression,” said Gabrielle Archambault, executive director of global digital innovation and media at NARS. She further emphasized NARS’ enthusiasm to utilize their platform to amplify the work of the next-generation creators involved in the project.
As per NARS, every artwork in the collection will come with an Infinite Objects video frame featuring the NFT, alongside a selection of NARS “Orgasm” cosmetics products, and an exclusive one-on-one consultation with a makeup artist from the brand.
Incorporating augmented reality excitement, each artist designed a unique AR filter inspired by their individual artwork. These AR filters will be accessible via NARS’ Instagram account on July 31, adding an interactive dimension to the NFT collection.
Web3 Past
NARS made its initial foray into Web3 in August 2021, introducing its first NFT collection inspired by the renowned Orgasm makeup line. For this venture, the brand enlisted the talent of three artists – DJ and music producer Nina Kraviz, fashion designer Azede Jean-Pierre, and collage and crystal artist Sara Shakeel. These captivating artworks were then made available for sale on the Truesy platform, coinciding with the release on World Orgasm Day, July 31 of the same year.
From what can be observed on Truesy’s Twitter account, the NFT marketplace seems to have remained inactive since late July 2021.
In February 2023, NARS collaborated with Boss Beauties to launch the Odentity NFT collection, drawing inspiration once again from its iconic “Orgasm” makeup shade.
