According to a recent tweet on the official Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) X (formerly Twitter) account, BAYC holders now have the opportunity to register their products and businesses that are centered around the Ape theme on the newly launched “Made by Apes” platform. With this special license, BAYC holders can showcase their Ape-centric creations and ventures to a wider audience.
In collaboration with blockchain protocol SaaSyLabs, the platform introduces a groundbreaking on-chain licensing system designed specifically for BAYC and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) holders. This innovative solution grants these holders an exclusive on-chain license to utilize the Yuga-made Made by Apes logo in association with their products or services that showcase their individual Ape. This platform is truly one-of-a-kind, offering a club full of builders an unprecedented opportunity.
Yuga Labs, the creator of Bored Ape and Mutant Ape NFTs, offers a comprehensive license to owners, allowing them to utilize their Ape for personal and commercial purposes. According to the official website, the Made by Apes license serves as a validation that the product or service provider possesses a genuine Bored Ape or Mutant Ape NFT, either through ownership or licensing.
Since its initial launch in April 2021, the BAYC collection has given rise to captivating ventures resulting from Bored Ape/Mutant Ape IP explorations, such as Ape Water, Bored Sauce, Bored & Hungry, and numerous other projects. From retail clothing and entertainment to food, consumer packaged goods, and cannabis, Apes have increasingly become prominent in pop culture.
To obtain a license, owners must initially link their digital wallet containing their Ape(s) and proceed with the license registration procedure. As outlined on the website, Yuga classifies licenses into two categories: the “Primary License” and the “Product License.”
The Primary License functions as the main license linked to the holder’s unique Ape, identifiable by the first five numbers of the license number. With this license, holders have the option to include Product Licenses or sublicenses to associate various Apes and products that are connected to the primary one. These associations are represented by the three digits following the Primary License numbers. However, it’s important to note that to obtain sublicenses, holders must first possess a Primary License.
After obtaining the license, holders are permitted to showcase the Made by Apes logo in their projects alongside the image of their BAYC or MAYC NFT on the condition of adhering to two limitations. Firstly, the logo must be used in its original form without any modifications or alterations, including retaining the license number watermark. Secondly, the logo should not overshadow the individual BAYC or MAYC NFT image of the holder and must be displayed with equal prominence.
According to Yuga, if holders wish to utilize their individual Ape in various projects or services, they are required to obtain multiple Product Licenses. There are no restrictions on the number of licenses a holder can apply for. For instance, if a holder used their Ape image on a t-shirt and now intends to feature it on a beer or beverage product, they must obtain a new Product License for that specific usage.
Conversely, if a holder possesses multiple Apes and intends to utilize them collectively for a specific product or service, they can simply request one license per Ape. Yuga explains that in the “near future,” holders will have the option to register the project under a single master license, allowing them to add each additional Ape as sublicenses. This approach enables efficient management and coordination of multiple Apes under one overarching license for streamlined usage in various projects or services.
BAYC members participating in the Made by Apes program will see their individual products and services showcased on Yuga Labs’s digital platform, The Bodega. The platform is set to debut in the upcoming summer season.
According to the official licensing website, The Bodega will serve as a showcase for all Made by Ape licensees. Users will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of products created by members of the BAYC and MAYC communities, leveraging their BAYC and MAYC NFTs to establish their brands. Additionally, the platform will serve as a convenient resource for verifying the validity of a product’s license if it bears the Made by Apes logo.
Significantly, the website carries a disclaimer that highlights The Bodega and the Made by Apes logo “do not constitute an endorsement of the showcased projects/products.”
